General Summary:

The primary purpose of this position is to prepare, maintain and revise maps and databases for engineering and other office projects. Utilizes mapping software to prepare layouts, detailed drawings, and maps.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Utilizes mapping software to prepare, draft and maintain layouts, working plans, detail drawings, maps, construction sheets and other related specification sheets.
  • Ensures drawings, maps and work plans are accurate and readily accessible.
  • Generates reports and maps and distributes to proper personnel.
  • Posts, updates and maintains database of maps, cable counts and other necessary data.
  • Performs field checks to verify and update pedestal numbers, pole numbers, and construction work orders, when necessary.
  • Commits to performing job tasks in a manner that ensures a safe working environment.
  • Willingly and cooperatively performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three months related experience and/or training
  • Must maintain a good driving record and a valid driver license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of mapping software designs, principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations affecting engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of outside plant facilities and cable routing.
  • Knowledge of company products/services, policies and procedures.
  • Good verbal, listening and written communications skills.
  • Proficiency in operating a personal computer and software applications pertaining to job functions.
  • Skill in prioritizing, completing multiple projects, identifying problems and finding resolutions.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to translate customer needs to graphic images.
  • Ability to communicate with customers, co-workers and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, perform under stress and achieve optimum results.
  • Ability to effectively function as a team player and to project a positive attitude.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality guidelines in accordance with company policy.
  • Ability to read and interpret various formats of English language instructions.
  • Ability to demonstrate dependability through good attendance and adherence to timelines and schedules.
  • Able and willing to continue business skill development by attending training away from home for an extended time frame.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods, walking, finger dexterity, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity including close vision.
  • Ability to look at a computer screen for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • May be required occasionally to stoop, kneel or bend.
  • Ability to drive long distances.
